TALENTED pupils at Sidcot School in Winscombe took top marks at an Engineering Team Challenge Day with seven local schools earlier this month. (February)
Twelve students aged 12 and 13 took part in the event at Gordano School, Portishead tested their engineering skills and teamwork to solve problems.
George Symonds, 12, of Frampton Cottrell, said: "It was great fun to work with new people and try to build a cost-effective wind turbine to generate electricity."
Sidcot science teacher Andy Darvill added: "Each team was given a choice of components and materials with which to make their turbine.
"Then they had to see what power it produced, test stability, ensure it looked good, what it cost to make and how well they worked together."
George's team was one of two which scored highly on all requested criteria.
