Charges reduced in town centre car parks

CHARGES in two car parks in Weston-super-Mare are to be reduced.
The move comes at the same time as the authority is introducing parking meters in 28 streets in the town centre.
The pay and display machines are currently being installed and the scheme goes operational on November 12.
Charges at Melrose and Grove car parks will be reduced to £1 per hour for up to three hours from November 5.
Charging for stays over three hours will remain unchanged.
The move is aimed at encouraging longer term visitors to park off-street, leaving the on-street spaces available for those making short trips to the shops.
The decision to reduce charges was made by the executive in July and is part of wider proposals to improve the availability of parking.
It is hoped that when all of the changes have been implemented they will improve the availability of spaces for shoppers.
A new parking guidance system will also be introduced to guide drivers to the car parks with most spaces.
