Dark's haul proves too much for his rivals at Westerleigh Lakes

LOWER Lake's peg 11 came up with a winning weight of 22-6-0 for Bob Dark in the Kingswood Disabled & over-55s match fished at Westerleigh Lakes.

Dark poled a soft 4mm pellet at nine metres centre and brought 15-10-0 of carp weighing in the 2-6lb bracket, plus 6-12-0 of skimmers and roach to the scales.

The runner-up was Dave Britton, who poled single red maggot close to the smallest island off point peg one to tempt 17-8-0 of carp to 5lb.

The top silvers catch came from peg five and fell to match organiser Pete Powe, who poled double caster at nine metres centre for 5-2-0 of tench.

Overall: 1, Bob Dark 22-6-0, peg 11; 2, Dave Britton 17-8-0, peg 1; 3, Bill Ferris 7-11-0, peg 2; 4, Bob Warren 6-5-0, peg 4; 5, Dave Coopper 5-12-0, peg 7.

Silvers: 1, Pete Powe 5-2-0, peg 5.

Sensas Thyers members took the top two places in the Tuesday Tenner match fished on Acorn's Paddock at Kingston Seymour.

Top rod for the second week in succession was Weston-Super-Mare based Dave Wride, who poled pellet straight down the track at seven metres off peg nine and weighed in 38-10-0 of mostly carp.

Meanwhile, his Sensas team-mate, Mike Owen fished the same method and bait at peg 26 for a similar 29-7-0.

Bristol PSV's Simon Belcham was third man at peg 29 where maggot, poled at seven metres centre attracted 29-6-0 of carp, skimmers and f1's.

The heaviest catch of silverfish was taken by Charlie Barnes, who used a variety of baits to coax 7-2-0 of skimmers and f1's from the margins of island peg four.

Peg 13 came up with double tops for Chris Bland in the Carpenters Arms 2000 AC's match fished on Avalon Fishery's Moors Match Lake at West Hay.

He alternated between fishing a groundbait feeder close to the island and single maggot at seven metres centre and included a winning 3-7-0 of silvers in his 17-13-0 total catch.

Bland's nearest challenge came from Martin Woolley, who fished a straight lead with banded 8mm pellet off peg 17 to tempt four carp weighing 10-8-0 gross.

Brian Slipper clinched both categories in the Sensas Thyers weekend match fished on Acorn's Paddock at Kingston Seymour.

He poled a variety of baits both long, short and at dead-depth off peg nine on road bank for a 50-10-0 total catch.

Result: 1, Brian Slipper 50-10-0, peg 9; 2, Mike Owens 33-7-0, peg 28; 3, R Healy 25-4-0, peg 12; 4, Rod Wootten 16-10-0, peg 6; 5, l Walker 16-6-0, peg 3; 6, Mark Leader 14-12-0, peg 16.
