A PET owner was left heartbroken after her dog died after being attacked by a bull terrier on a Weston beach.

The female owner was walking her King Charles Spaniel along Sand Bay at around 3.30pm on Saturday, November 10, when another dog - thought to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier - attacked it.

When the owner tried to separate the dog, which was not on a lead, she was bitten.

The owners of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier collected their dog and there was an exchange of words.

The woman took her King Charles Spaniel to the vets but it was pronounced dead on arrival.

A police spokesman said: "We believe there were people in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident and have information to help the police enquiries.

"We would like them - and the owners of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier - to contact us."

Anyone with information should contact Weston police in 101 or visit http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact/crime_reporting/

This was my friends dog. She was the sweetest dog you could wish to meet, would not have hurt a fly!
She was attacked by this thug of a dog who's owners seemed oblivious to what it was capable of doing, very irresponsible. Someone knows this dog the owners know who you are! please any information please call the police. if you haven't got the common decency to do that then at least muzzle your dog when you are out in public to avoid any more heart break to another family.

Weston People is horrified that your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was the victim of this attack. Please let us know if police managed to track the other dog and its owner and if legal proceedings start. We wish you well and are sorry for your loss.

The CKCS was my dog..... Her name was Sapphire (Sapphy) for short.
I send a plea to all owners of dogs originally breed for fighting purposes..... Please dont let Sapphy's death be in vain, When your dog is in an area where it might get over excited please for its safety and others put it back on its lead...
Sapphy would have been 4 years old this week...
The whole horrific ordeal replays constantly in my head, and I no longer have my beloved sapphy......
Be thoughtfull and protect your dog and others....
    Thankyou
