AN ENORMOUS CROCODILE VISITS SIDCOT SCHOOL TO CELEBRATE WORLD BOOK DAY

AN enormous crocodile walked into classrooms at Sidcot School in Winscombe - not to gobble up children but to help celebrate World Book Day.

Reception teacher Mikki Coates dressed as Roald Dahl's much-loved reptile to share stories with pupils who buried their heads in books and enjoyed the transformative power of storytelling.
As well as reading, listening to authors, creating poetry and writing newspaper reports, students made their own books and even cooked up favourite literary recipes.
Headmaster Iain Kilpatrick said: "Everyone got involved in this inspirational day – the children enjoyed a picnic-style lunch while they were read to by a wide variety of people including non-teaching staff from sports, drama, maintenance and marketing.
"A police officer visited and author, Geoffrey Pearce, who attended Sidcot School in the 1950's, joined the event.
"At Sidcot we believe instilling a love of reading early on in life is a vital part of a rounded education."
