WESTON-SUPER-MARE MP John Penrose will be celebrating English Tourist Week on the town's Grand Pier - helped by Sunny the donkey.
English Tourism Week, organised by VisitEngland, runs from Saturday to Sunday, March 16-24 and aims to draw attention to the UK as a holiday destination.
Mr Penrose will be on the pier on Friday, March 22, accompanied by its mascot, Sunny the donkey.
They will be joined by Grand Pier staff and handing out ride tickets and other goodies to visitors.
Grand Pier owner Kerry Michael said: "We are very pleased that John Penrose has agreed to spare the time to highlight both the Grand Pier and English Tourism Week.
"Tourism is worth £1 billion in the West Country alone and Weston-super-Mare is the largest destination for that spend.
"I can't emphasise enough how tourism is a vital and significant industry for us locally, providing jobs and keeping the economy afloat.
"In the current economic climate, with people taking more staycations, it is very important to keep a resort like ours firmly in the public eye.
"We need to celebrate what we have to offer tourists here in Weston-super-Mare and English Tourism Week will go a long way to highlight those opportunities".
This is the third year Mr Penrose has celebrated English Tourism Week at the Grand Pier.
He attended the national launch at the pier in 2011 by taking part in a giant Congathon and in 2012 he donned his apron and baseball cap and served Mr Whippy ice creams to visiting Sci Fi characters Darth Maul and Darth Vader.
