North Somerset primary school teacher Faces Lengthy Sentence for Sex Offences

A North Somerset primary school teacher who pleaded guilty to a catalogue of sexual abuse against young girl pupils in his care will be sentenced on Tuesday.

Following a lengthy hearing at Bristol Crown court today (Friday June 10) Nigel Leat aged 51 and from Bristol will re-appear on May 14 after the judge indicated he will receive a lengthy sentence for the abuse committed.
In May Leat pleaded guilty to 36 charges including attempted rape of a child under the age of 13 years old, sexual assault by penetration, causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, sexual assault child under the age of 13 with no penetration, voyeurism, possession of indecent photographs of children and possession of extreme pornographic images.
Detective Superintendent Geoff Wessell, Head of public protection said: "The court today has heard all of the evidence in relation to Leat's offending behaviour.
"This clearly highlighted how he breached the trust of all of his pupils, their parents and the teachers with who he worked.
"As a result the Judge at Bristol Crown Court has indicated that he will receive a lengthy sentence on Tuesday June 14.
"I hope this indication from the judge brings some comfort to those affected by Leat's actions."

This is an awful story and I feel for those affected. You just don't expect this kind of thing right on your door-step, it seems that we hear about this kind of thing more and more these days, along with abuse against the elderly or other groups. It makes you wonder just how bad things will get in the future. There must be some "good" news out there ........ !!
