Work is scheduled this month on three road schemes in North Somerset costing nearly half a million pounds.

A £60,000 road-resurfacing scheme in Portishead started on September 17 at Valley Road between the junction with Down Road and Weatherly Drive.

The affected length of road is closed during the works and although access to properties will be maintained, delays may occur.

There will be a clearly signed diversion route for any through traffic.

Maintenance work on Kennel Farm Bridge on the Long Ashton Bypass is due to start on Monday, September 24 until the end of November.

This work will include replacing the expansion joints and bridge deck waterproofing, replacing the road surface and re-painting the parapets.

The cost of this scheme, scheduled to last 10 weeks, is £198,500 and temporary traffic lights will be used while the work is carried out.

A road-resurfacing scheme along Blagdon's High Street will take place from Monday to Friday, September 24-October 5.

A section of the A368 between Clanders Batch and the village primary school will be shut to allow the work to be carried out.

The roadworks will take place from 8am-4pm each weekday and the road will be open to traffic outside these times.

Clearly signed diversions will be set up from the junction of the A38 and A368 at Churchill and the A37 and A368 at Chelwood with the diversion route following Bath Road to the A37, through Bristol to the A38 as far as Churchill gate and then back into Blagdon (and vice versa).

The cost of this work is approximately £180,000 and all three schemes will be carried out on North Somerset Council's behalf by Balfour Beatty.

North Somerset Council deputy leader and executive member whose portfolio includes highways Elfan Ap Rees said: "These schemes will all benefit road users in the district and demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the road infrastructure in North Somerset despite limited budgets.

"While there will inevitably be delays we will do all we can to minimise them."
