Sidcot's 1st XV beat Winscombe Under17 XV by 15 points to 5 with the school's captain, Alfie Cunningham, 17 of Blackford, scoring the decisive try at Winscombe Recreation Ground.
Alfie said 'I felt privileged to be part of such a historic victory. To beat a side of the quality of Wiscombe RFC shows how much Sidcot rugby has developed.'
Headmaster Iain Kilpatrick said: "This was a well deserved victory for Sidcot in a strongly fought game. Conditions were challenging but both teams played with great commitment and sportsmanship."
It's the first time Sidcot School has taken the Marter Community Challenge Cup which was inaugurated four years ago to celebrate the installation of floodlights on the Winscombe pitch.
Sidcot's Head of Boys' Rugby, Simon Cattermole said: "The fixture always produces an intriguing evening of competitive rugby and a large crowd.
"At 10am the game looked unlikely due to heavy rain but some excellent work by Winscombe Chairman Mike Williamson and his team ensured the pitch was playable.
"In soggy, muddy conditions both sides played an admirable brand of expansive rugby and on all parts of the pitch as both sides fought to get the upper hand."
