SIDCOT SCHOOL SEES RETURN OF FORMER PUPIL AND WORLD FAMOUS PHOTOGRAPHER TO GIVE DARWEN LECTURE

A former pupil from Sidcot School who is now a world famous photographer is to give this year's prestigious Darwen Lecture.

World famous photographer Homer Sykes delivers Darwen lecture to Sidcto School where he was a former pupil
Homer Sykes, 63, will discuss his life's work at a free lecture in the Winscombe school's drama studio on Thursday, May 24th at 7pm.
The theme, 'Two Passions, Burma Journeys and other encounters, Another Country, British Society in the 1980s', will focus on Sykes' extensive Burmese journeys and images of British lives 30 years ago.
Acting Headteacher, Elizabeth Burgess, said: "It's wonderful to have a former pupil return to Sidcot with a wealth of experiences from his 40 year career.
"Homer Sykes is one of very few great photographers who have had exhibitions at the Tate gallery."
Sykes has worked for The Telegraph, Times and Observer newspapers and his work as taken him to conflicts around the world including Israel, West Africa and Northern Ireland.
There will be a chance to ask questions after the lecture and refreshments will be served.
The 300-year-old independent and boarding school has more than 500 pupils aged three to 18.
It is the only Quaker school in the South West and one of only seven in the UK. It accepts students from all faiths or none.
