SAM Trego has landed The Post Cricketer of the Week award after an impressive all-round display to carry Weston-super-Mare to an emphatic victory.
Trego, pictured, the elder brother of Somerset all-rounder Pete, smashed an unbeaten 160 before claiming 5-10 as Weston cruised to a 232-run success over Chippenham in Premier Two of the Globe Sports West of England Premier League.
The off-spinner enjoyed a fruitful spell with the bat after going in at number four by hitting 17 fours and seven sixes off only 106 deliveries on the way to his impressive total, which helped Weston finish amass a total of 307-6.
Trego then produced a devastating spell with the ball by claiming his five-wicket haul in just 7.3 overs to curb Chippenham's enthusiastic start to their run chase in which Weston's Ashley Allen also played a part (3-8).
Weston skipper Adam Davies remarked: "It was a bit of a one-man show, really!"
He added: "His unbeaten 160 is certainly the best score he's had with the bat in the two seasons that he's been at Weston.
"He went in at number four and played all the way through to take us past the 300-mark. It was all the more impressive considering the conditions were certainly more favourable for the bowlers.
"Sam didn't waste any time with the ball either and went through their order pretty quickly to help us to what was an emphatic victory in the end.
"It was a fantastic all-round display from him and he thoroughly deserves to be named cricketer of the week."
