THE BRITISH Heart Foundation celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and is marking the occassion with a new appeal.

In support of the Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, The British Heart Foundation will hold a new sponsored walk - 'Sunday Walk along the Prom,' in Weston-super- Mare on October 9.

The four mile family walk will begin at Weston General Hospital and will continue along the prom to Anchor Head before finishing up at the Grand Pier.

Lucy Saunders, the Bristol-based fundraising manger for the British Heart Foundation, said: "We are absolutely delighted that well-known charity fundraiser, Paul Hobbs, has chosen to help the British Heart Foundation during our 50th Anniversary year and his 18th year of charity fundraising.

"Paul is held in the very highest regard in the local area for the huge support he has given to local charities and he has received numerous awards in recognition of his ongoing charity work.

"These include a Civic Award, A Charity Star Award and a Lord Mayor's Medal.

"Paul will be organising the 'Sunday Walk Along The Prom' in association with the British Heart Foundation and he will be looking for support from companies and individuals in the locality.

"We would be really grateful for your support with the event- this could be anything from making a donation, to providing potential raffle prizes or opportunities to hold collections in public places.

"We'd also love you to join in with the walk yourself and spread the word amongst colleagues, family and friends."

The Mending Broken Hearts Appeal is one of the most important fundraising efforts ever undertaken by the British Heart Foundation.

Its goal is simple; to fund the research that could literally 'mend the broken hearts' of millions, in as little as 10 years' time.

Medically, it's a goal that is achievable, but currently the resources and investment we need to make it happen are simply not available.

The Mending Broken Hearts Research programme represents the best opportunity to beat heart disease, the UK's single biggest killer.
