Debating Society Launches at Weston College's University Campus
Every two weeks a new topic subject to debate is launched with the first on the use of torture for national security and second questioning marijuana legalisation.
Learning Technologist Amy Palmer and Library Administrator Sarah Hollow were behind the launch of the society and Sarah said: "Learning to debate is a very useful skill which can help with A-Levels students University applications.
"Thirty attended the first debate and on alternative weeks we offer sessions on research, resources and putting together a reasoned argument.
"Debating gives you confidence in public speaking that lasts for life and we intend to choose gritty topics so there is a strong response."
Second year University of the West of England Law Student, Stephen Wheat, added: "We came to Weston College to present a debate and help students understand how to formulate and argue from both sides.
"We've been so impressed with the attitude of the students and their ability of participate."
