While anti-poverty campaigner Bob Geldoff wanted to feed the world Weston MP John Penrose is happy to help those in need closer to home.

Mr Penrose was  at Tesco on Saturday to help with Weston Foodbank Christmas collection.

Shoppers were given lists of everyday food items as they went into the store and, if they bought one and donated it to the collection at the end of their shopping trip, Tesco topped it up by an extra 30 per cent.

Mr Penrose said:  "Our local foodbank is pretty new in Weston, but they're doing great work and helping people who will find Christmas a struggle this year.

"If anybody can spare any extra food then they're a really good cause, and Tesco deserve credit for topping up every donation with another 30 per cent as well."
