Weston MP John Penrose learned on Monday afternoon more details of the help which was pledged to flood victims by Prime Minister David Cameron at the weekend.
Secretary of State for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Owen Patterson told parliament that the Bellwin Scheme would be activated to pay for the costs of protecting life and property in flooded areas.
Mr Penrose said: 'Everyone has been managing as best they can as the rain has kept falling and the waters have risen.
"The emergency services and local volunteers have been amazing, turning out to help neighbours and strangers alike.
"But I'm delighted there's going to be Government help as well, in the shape of emergency funding from a contingency scheme that was set up years ago to cope with exactly this type of problem.
"It's called the Bellwin Scheme and it should help local councils pay for the emergency costs of protecting families and their homes.
"It's much needed and hugely welcome."Details of Bellwin scheme are available by clicking HERE.
