Weston businessman fined for VAT avoidance

A businessman whose company provided door staff to pubs and clubs in Bristol used forged invoices to fraudulently claim £50,000 in VAT repayments.
Director Richard Knight, 28, of Rowan Place, Weston-super-Mare, was caught when officers from HM Revenue & Customs became suspicious during a routine compliance visit to Calon Security Ltd.
Richard Knight admitted five counts of VAT evasion at Bristol Crown Court
At Bristol Crown Court, Knight admitted five counts of VAT evasion and was sentenced to a one-year community order consisting of 240 hours of unpaid work.
