DETERMINED swimmers will be taking to the seas of Weston-super-Mare this weekend to raise money for the town's RNLI. The annual Weston-super-Mare Big Swim, now in its eighth year, is on September 9 and will see fundraisers take part in a 2.5 mile swim across Weston bay. Swimmers will be taken to the end of Brean Down at 10.30am and swim to Anchor Head on the north Weston shore. It is expected the challenge will take between 45 and 90 minutes depending on the individual entrant. It had been planned to hold the event in August, but it had to be postponed after issues with sourcing sufficient safety kayaks. The swim has raised £25,000 since it started eight years ago and last year the group of eight swimmers raised £5,000 for the charity. Those wanting to sponsor a swimmer can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/teams/bigswim2012.
