ICONIC American bandleader Glenn Miller is the subject of a toe-tapping new musical which visits The Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare as part of a 2013 tour.
Bugle Boy – The Life Story of Glenn Miller is a new musical about the life and music of 1940s musician and bandleader Glenn Miller and features many of his world famous tunes.
It is both a celebration of the Glenn Miller 'sound' and a love story – a story of one man's sheer determination to find a unique sound and a quest that became his Holy Grail.
The talented cast of actors and musicians deliver a show which traces the iconic band-leaders life from his teenage years to his untimely and mysterious disappearance in 1944, with Glenn Miller's own world-famous music weaving its way through an emotional and inspiring storyline.
Glenn Miller is synonymous with big band music and this entertaining and endearing musical explores the bandleader's work ethic and high musical standard, his relationships with friends and family, and the hard musical road that took him from civvy-street to the U.S. army.
The toe-tapping score includes 30 songs such as Moonlight Serenade, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Pennsylvania 6-5000, String Of Pearls, St Louis Blues March, American Patrol, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and In The Mood among others.
UK playwright Den Stevenson set about making a musical about the great band leader when he was 'Booker' for Glenn's brother's band, The Herb Miller Orchestra.
He honed his unique concept on English soil; then polished and fine-tuned the show on the other side of the 'Pond' firstly in Virginia and then on Broadway.
Now the end product sees another UK tour of Bugle Boy – The Life Story of Glenn Miller, the very first and only Glenn Miller musical ever staged anywhere in the World.
Bugle Boy traces Glenn's life from leaving college to play in various bands including his own as he searches tirelessly for over twenty years, with the constant support and love of his wife Helen, for a unique band sound.
When he eventually succeeds in his quest, he and his family only enjoy the fruits of fame for three short years.
When America joins the Second World War, after the bombing of Pearl Harbour, he joins the Army, forms the subsequently famed A.A.F Band and flies to Europe to play to the Armed Forces; then goes missing in mysterious circumstances.
Packed with Glenn Miller's famous and instantly recognisable tunes, this fantastic new Musical is a show not to be missed!
