CHRISTMAS celebrations get underway at The Playhouse Theatre with the Viennese Strauss Christmas Gala.
Featuring the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, the Viennese Strauss Christmas Gala, present another fantastic programme of Viennese Christmas delights.
Audiences will get into the Christmas spirit with this immensely popular evening of Viennese music, Christmas songs, witty stories and much more.
Conducted by Fraser Goulding, an expert in Viennese music, the orchestra will play a variety of Viennese favourites by Strauss, Lehar, Kalman and others.
The programme will include The Blue Danube, Emperor Waltz, Thunder and Lightning Polka, Tritsch Tratsch Polka, Vilia, The Merry Widow Waltz, Goodbye, Deep in My Heart Dear, Golden Days, Stout Hearted Men.
With traditional carol singing with the audience, Christmas readings and lots of fun this is the perfect way to get the whole family into the festive spirit.
The evening will also include all you favourite Christmas music including White Christmas, Jingle Bells, Silent Night, Chestnuts Roasting, O' holy night, Carols and The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot.
The show is presented by Mark Langley with solo performances by Andrew Forbes Lane (Tenor), Marilyn Hill-Smith (Soprano) and Jeremy Peaker (Baritone).
Andrew has performed at the BBC Proms in a specially commissioned opera by John Harle called Angel Magick and has made many appearances with English National Opera in their
productions of From The House of the Dead, Falstaff, The Tales of Hoffman, Madame Butterfly and Salome.
Marilyn Hill-Smith made her debut with English National Opera as Adele, Die Fledermaus and has played diverse roles including Susanna, Marriage Of Figaro, Zerbinetta, Ariadne Auf Naxos, Chief Of Police in the British premier of Ligeti`s Le Grand Macabre.
The British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra was formed from a group of Midland and Northern based musicians in 1996 by Jeremy Peaker and Russell Swift with the aim of bringing popular classics to the masses at an affordable rate.
The Orchestra have been playing a wide range of concert music all over Britain from The Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall, Plymouth Pavilions and Hall for Cornwall to the Whitley Bay Playhouse and Blackpool Grand Theatre.
They are frequently in demand for their special Proms Concerts and Movie Nights and are currently breaking new ground with children and family based shows with audience participation.
