AUDIENCES get ready for arguably one of popular playwright Alan Ayckbourn's most clever and most delightful comedies, A Cricket Match.
A Cricket Match is touring UK theatres and takes to the stage over three nights at The Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare.
The show has an Englishman's passion for cricket as its backdrop and takes audiences on a hilarious journey through the difficulties and complications of marital discontent.
Starring Stephen Beckett and Jenny Funnell this marital comedy concerns two unhappy couples Celia and Toby and Miles and Rowena.
Stephen will be most recognised from his TV performances as Dr Matt Ramsden in Coronation Street and Mike Jarvis in The Bill, as well as other TV performances in Casualty, Doctors, Anubis House, Holby City, Robin Hood and Roman Mysteries.
Jenny is best known for playing the role of Sandy in the BBC TV sitcom As Time Goes By (with Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer), which started recording in 1992 and ran for nine series ending in 2005.
Her recent TV roles include: Angela Reddin in Doctors, Anna Freeman in The Royal, Chloe's mum in Coming of Age and Phillipa in Love Soup.
A Cricket Match tells the story of Celia, a confused housewife, fears her marriage to Toby may be over and doesn't know how to break it to him that she's leaving him.
Toby's best friend Miles, a similarly troubled man, who never really knows exactly how to say what he means, is married to Rowena and in a rather inappropriate time confesses his love for Celia.
At the same time flamboyant Rowena flirts with everything in site and has indiscreet affairs.
Everything comes to a head at a cricket match where Lionel, the incompetent school caretaker and groundsman, has sabotaged the pitch and Miles and Toby come to dramatic blows over a dubious umpiring decision.
Will Celia and Toby's rocky marriage end in shipwreck or will Miles decide that his own marriage is worth a second chance?
"A Cricket Match" will be at the Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare, on Thursday 28 March- Saturday 30 March at 7.30pm, plus 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets priced £14.50, £13.50, £12 concessions, £1 off children £8. Matinee £10, children £8 are available on 01934 645 544 or online at http://tinyurl.com/ckzqxvr
