Ireland's most enduring Irish folk band is back on the road touring the UK and for one night only will perform at The Playhouse Theatre in Weston-super-Mare.
Dervish is one of the outstanding line-ups in traditional Irish music today attracting huge fans from across the globe.
The band is fronted by singer Cathy Jordan, who is widely regarded by many as the most distinctive voice and finest front woman in Irish music.
Completing the line-up are Brian McDonagh on Mandola, Thomas "Tom" Morrow - Fiddle, Michael Holmes -Bouzouki, Shane Mitchell -Accordion and Liam Kelly -Flute and whistles.
Playing together onstage, Dervish create one of the most distinctive, yet expertly balanced sounds anywhere in traditional music, combining the fiery energy and mature complexity that have become their hallmarks.
It is not without good reason that they have become one of Ireland's most enduring bands - whether representing Celtic music at major festivals, playing at The Great Wall of China or setting the room ablaze in the US on St Patrick's Day.
Dervish was formed in 1989 in County Sligo by Liam Kelly, Shane Mitchell, Martin McGinley, Brian McDonagh and Michael Holmes.
The band was originally formed to record an album of local music which was released as "The Boys of Sligo" and they later formed Dervish.
In 1991 the band were joined by Cathy Jordan and all-Ireland champion fiddle player Shane McAleer.
Dervish's first album, "Harmony Hill", was released in 1993 to critical success and in 1994 their second album, "Playing with Fire", was released and reached number 1 in the Irish Folk music and international World/Roots music charts.
In 1996 Dervish released "At the End of the Day", which won the Hot Press Folk Album of the Year Award and during their long history the band has been awarded almost every important industry award in Irish folk music both at home and abroad.
Dervish are as complete a band as are to be found anywhere within the tradition, as they continue to travel the globe, flying the flag for great Irish music wherever they go.
Dervish will be at the Playhouse, Weston-super-Mare, on Thursday 4 October at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced at £16 and £14 concessions are available on 01934 645 544 or online at http://tinyurl.com/677l7bh
