PEOPLE living along the North Somerset coast are being urged to take part in the Beachwatch Big Weekend.

The event is part of a national beach clean and survey of waste organised by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS).

As well as cleaning up local beauty spots the data that people collect will help the society tackle the problem of litter in the sea and on beaches.

A Beachwatch event is taking place on September 18 from 9.30am at Brean Down and on September 19 from 10am at Sand Bay, Weston-super-Mare.

There will be a free rock pool ramble and a guided costal walk led by the National Trust following the event at Brean Down.

Everyone is welcome to take part in the surveys and bags and gloves will be provided.

For more information and to confirm attendance contact Alison.slade@somersetwildlife.org or call 01823 652409.
