North Somerset Museum is celebrating the 60th anniversary of a popular cartoon character with a special People's Collection.
October 2 will mark the 60th anniversary of the first publication of
Charles M Schulz's' "Peanuts" comic strip.
And to mark the occasion, the collection will feature extensive Snoopy memorabilia.
The many and varied items on show all belong to local man Thom Gray who has been collecting them for 11 years.
His collection includes t-shirts, mirrors, books, aprons, cutlery and much more, as well as familiar and less familiar books.
Items come from places as far flung as Italy, Australia and Japan.
"Thom's collection is so large that we only managed to fit a small part
of it into the museum's display case," said Nick Goff, Museum Curator.
"There is a continuing affection for all the characters in the Peanuts
cartoons, but Snoopy seems to be especially popular. I'm sure that
Thom's display will appeal to everyone."
North Somerset Museum has been featuring a range of things people collect for over 14 years.
The museum is always looking for new collections to highlight, so if you have a collection you would like to put on display in the museum, contact Nick Goff, Museum Curator on 01934 621028 or e-mail nick.goff@n-somerset.gov.uk to find out more.
Thom's collection of Snoopy memorabilia will be on show in North
Somerset Museum until October 16, 2010.
The museum is in Burlington Street, Weston-super-Mare and is open 11am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.
