POLICE will be cracking down on antisocial behaviour at the Weston-super-Mare carnival.

The town's population will be swelled by thousands of extra visitors when the procession comes to town on Monday November 15..

Officers say they will crackdown on any alcohol-fuelled anti social behaviour or public order offences as part of Operation Relentless.

They will once again wheel out well-rehearsed plans to ensure all those who attend, have an enjoyable time.

They are hoping for a repeat of the past two years, which has seen trouble-free evenings with just a handful of isolated public order incidents.

Chief Inspector Jeff Foreman, head of operations for the North Somerset policing district said: "Our message is quite simple – come and enjoy yourself at the carnival in Weston-super-Mare.

"Because the Weston carnival is the last of the series and has a seaside location, it always attracts large numbers of people, both locally and from further afield.

"We want everyone to have an enjoyable time and will roll out well-rehearsed plans to crackdown on any alcohol-fuelled anti social behaviour or public order offences during the evening.

"Our message is simple - don't come to Weston-super-Mare if you plan to misbehave.

"If necessary we will make use of Home Office's "powers to move" legislation, which permit us to move people from the area and prevent them from returning within 48 hours.

"Their photograph will be taken and passed on to the CCTV team at North Somerset Council, who are in constant contact with our officers on the street."

There will be high visibility patrols by officers on the night, supported by their police community support officer and special constable colleagues - to provide help and advice to those visiting the resort for the first time.

Patrolling officers are likely to be bolstered by the road policing unit, dog and mounted section to provide reassurance to those travelling to the resort.

People travelling to Weston-super-Mare on Monday can expect some road closures along the carnival route. These will be planned and implemented by the carnival organisers.
