Weston-super-Mare RNLI Open Day

The RNLI Open Day will take place at Anchor Head, by the RNLI shop and Heritage Centre on August 7.

It will consist of many demonstrations and exhibits to reflect the multi agency working, which makes up the rescue services provided for the Bristol Channel.

During the whole day from 10:00 the Heritage Centre will be open with exhibits of the history of Weston Lifeboat, one of the longest serving in the Bristol Channel, plus the shop and games to interest the children.

Subject to operational circumstances the Barry Dock, all weather Trent Class lifeboat “Inner Wheel II” will be attending.

There will be a Lunchtime Barbeque serving burgers and hot dogs.

At 12pm the mayor, councillor Philip Judd, himself an ex RNLI lifeboatman, arrives to mark the occasion and the Weston Lifeboats will be attending with opportunities to meet the crews and examine the boats.

The Atlantic 75 “Coventry & Warwick” and the “D-Class” “Anna Stock” are both Inshore Lifeboats who are having a very busy year so far having had 24 call outs or “shouts”

At 12:30pm there will be a demonstration by the coastguard who will show cliff and mud rescue techniques.

At 2pm will be the demonstration by the two lifeboats. The two boats will show their methods for carrying out rescues at sea and will work with the Coastguard to demonstrate casualty evacuations.

At 3pm the boats and crews will once again be available for close inspection and there will be another demonstration by the Coastguard..

There will be a further demonstration by the Weston Lifeboats at 4pm.

Also taking part will be the Great Western Ambulance Service who will have an emergency ambulance and two paramedics on show. They will take part in the demonstrations of life saving.

The other entertainments will include face painting and a bric a brac stall. Also there will be the opportunity for children to dress up as lifeboat man and have their picture taken in a lifeboat.
