THOUSANDS of pounds have been raised for various charities at the Weston Rotary Club's Christmas Fair.

The event took place in The Winter Gardens, Weston-super-Mare, and saw more than 60 Charities and other local voluntary organisations promote their activities.

Club president Bernard Land, Weston town mayor Dr Mike Kellaway-Marriott, and Liz Wells, chairman of North Somerset Council opened the event.

Mr Land said: “We would like to thank Weston Town Council for its sponsorship and Sunshine Radio for their broadcasts, jingles and great support during the day.

“Also thank you to the 1st Weston Village Scouts who distributed advertising leaflets and to the RAFA Band who entertained everybody with Christmas music.

“The Fair was very successful and we estimate that over £10,000 was raised by the Charities and organisations for their own particular causes as well as promoting their activities”.
