COUPLES in this county are the second worst in the country for cheating on their partner according to latest research.

A cheating map of Britain has been produced of the top 10 cheating counties in the UK and Avon comes out second worst with 19 per cent of people being unfaithful.

So are you one of those people who has or is currently playing away from home and if not would you ever consider it to spice up you love life?

The statistics gathered in Britain's largest survey of sex and marriage and revealed Devon was the worst county for being unfaithful, with a staggering 47 per cent of spouses currently playing away.

The poll, conducted by a extramarital dating agency IllicitEncounters.com, also revealed that three per cent of the UK population admitted to cheating on their current partner and a further seven per cent disclosed that they had cheated on their current wife or husband previously.

And according to the survey, five per cent of spouses would cheat 'if they thought they could get away with it', would you? Or do you think it is disgusting that so many people are unfaithful?

Rosie Freeman-Jones, representative for IllicitEncounters.com said : 'The results are very surprising - the number of people cheating in Devon is staggeringly high.

"I think there is more on an opportunity to cheat in places like London, but in cities people tend to be more open to multi-person relationships than in rural areas where it's much more traditional and you're pretty much married to one person and that's it for life.

"People get so attached to people and give them everything psychologically, emotionally, and spiritually and especially if they have married at a young age, the tendency is to eventually become trapped.

'And when people feel trapped, they become unhappy, and it is then that spouses might cheat on their partners and come to us in order to do so."

The website has more than 5,000 members in Devon, and in excess of 450,000 across the UK.

Sara Hartly, administrator for the site, added: "It has previously been estimated that around 40 per cent of women and 60 per cent of men will cheat during marriage, so these figures seem incredibly low.

"Traditional values seem to have a strong hold in rural towns and villages, therefore many feel a strong pressure to marry.

"As a result, we see a lot of members from places like Devon, who married young and now feel trapped in their relationships."

Thank you Vicki, as I said, North Somerset is not a county, it is a "unitary authority". That means it is an administrative district, but not a county, especially in the postal sense.
In Weston super Mare, we live in the county of Somerset.
North Somerset District Council seems to be unaware of this fact, since I called them to ask. This is incredible when you think about it, since they purport to be our lords and masters (even though they should be there to serve us), yet don't even know which county of the UK they are situated in!
I also had a leaflet from the prospective Labour candidate the other day. Their local address in Weston super Mare was quoted as being in "N Som"................oops, 10,000 leaflets all wrong. And these people are actually touting for our votes. I don't think so.
Anyway, as far as the survey goes, exactly who and where were the people they asked in the survey then? I actually think it's a bit much to condemn a large part of this local population as serial philanderers based on a survey that cannot even get it's most basic geography right. And in the friendliest possible way........you were the one who published it here, obviously expecting to elicit a response of some sort, (which you did). It therefore follows that you are just as responsible for it's content as the authors. Might it not be better if you were the one to contact the authors and perhaps publish their response on here? I for one would certainly be interested. They might even feel inclined to offer an apology to those amongst us who are actually not cheating on our partners.
    Kind regards, JPIPP

Further information for you about North Somerset
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

North Somerset is a unitary authority in England. Its area covers part of the ceremonial county of Somerset but it is administered independently of the non-metropolitan county. Its administrative headquarters are in the town hall in Weston-super-Mare.

North Somerset borders the local government areas of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Mendip and Sedgemoor. North Somerset contains the parliamentary constituencies of Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset.

Thanks for your comments. For goodness sake I did not write the survey it was one conducted by IllicitEncounters.com. They are the ones who produced the results saying Avon is an area not me.  Take the issue up with them!!!

So if there is no North Somerset what county do you think you live in then? After all we do live in the North Somerset Unitary Authority area. Hence the name North Somerset Council who make all the key decisions for everyone living in the weston area!!

    Couldnt agree more with jpipp.

Who is this vickifitz who is not bright enough to know that there is no such county as 'Avon' and hasn't been for over 13 years?

I might add that when there was a 'County of Avon', I never ever met anyone who either liked the name or the geographical arrangement that was forced upon the good people of Somerset

This is total nonsense. There is no UK county called Avon.
Neither is there a county called "North Somerset".
The Post Office, (that 21st century icon of efficiency and excellence!), have still not realised that the County of Avon was long ago superseded, and no longer exists. It is probably as a result of this fact that most address databases are now over 13 years (yes, honestly over 13 years!) out of date. For all that time, there has been no such thing as the County of Avon any more. Avon only existed between the years of 1974 and 1996.

Avon was, between those years, a non-metropolitan and ceremonial county in the west of England. The county was named after the River Avon, which runs through the area. In 1996, the county of Avon was abolished and the area split administratively between the Bath & North East Somerset, City of Bristol, North Somerset  and South Gloucestershire unitary authorities.
Even the BBC (that other 21st century icon of efficiency and excellence!) has caught on, and has even published the following on the web:
    tinyurl.com/kv39zy
Companies and institutions using these outdated and incorrect databases (with such a glaring error) must do so countless times, since there must be many thousands of customers living within the areas mentioned above. Am I the only person among them to say that it shows your organisation in a very poor light when they are unable to even get a simple UK address right? Clearly not, since the comments on the website above prove that others are still trying to get the message across, but  many institutions, like this one, are not listening. I for one would ignore a survey detailing the habits of people living in a non existant county!
