Louise Hill and Martha Woodland are both working towards a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy at the Beauty Oasis Day Spa, based on Locking Road.
Martha, 17, a former Wyvern School pupil, said: “The best thing about studying an apprenticeship is the confidence you gain from working with clients in the workplace whilst studying a formal qualification.
"The feedback from clients is continuous so I am constantly learning and developing my skills.
“In my role as a Beauty Therapist I am expected to talk and be sociable but before I started this course I would struggle to make conversation with clients.
"However since starting my apprenticeship my confidence has grown tremendously.”
Louise, also 17, a former Priory School pupil, said: “Working with clients at the same time as you are being trained is the best aspect of studying an apprenticeship because it really helps boost your confidence.
"You get thrown into work straight away which is a great way to gain skills and experience.
“There are so many different opportunities you can explore once you complete your apprenticeship and are qualified as a Beauty Therapist – I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”
Helen Booker, Head of Apprenticeships at the Business Enterprise Centre, said: “Study an Apprenticeship and you’ll gain a nationally-recognised qualification, hands-on experience in the workplace and industry-relevant skills.
"You’ll also develop life skills such as teamwork, good communication and problem-solving - and you’ll earn money at the same time.”
Both Louise and Martha chose are encouraging people to visit the College during Apprenticeship week, February 1st – 5th, at the Knightstone Campus on Knightstone Road to discuss their options.
Helen added: “We offer a wide range of apprenticeships including accounting, barbering, business administration, catering, hairdressing, hospitality, retail, sport and many more.
"We’ll help you decide on the best training programme to suit you, your experience and your aspirations.”
