POLICE in Weston-super-Mare are warning motorists that they are clamping down on illegal parking in the town.

PCSOs will be carrying out a 'day of action' on Tuesday February 2, focusing their attention on the limited waiting bays in the area.

Sgt Pete Land said: "This 'day of action' is in response to concerns from small businesses and local residents who have often been inconvenienced by illegal and inconsiderate parking.

"It is just part of our ongoing commitment to address illegal parking in Weston town centre.

"regularly patrol key areas and so if you do park illegally you can expect to receive a fixed penalty notice and a £30 fine."

North Somerset Council has recently renewed traffic signs and road markings after introducing a new Traffic Regulation Order - ensuring that traffic regulations are now enforceable in the area.

Mr Land added: "We have worked closely with our partners at the Council to remedy the parking issues in Weston-super-Mare and those who have got used to parking illegally now need to think twice."
