Almost £8,500 was raised in one sumptuous evening of fine
-
Thatched Cottage Weston, which celebrated winning a Gold Commendation
food and fundraising in aid of Weston Hospicecare.
The Old Thatched Cottage in Weston-super-Mare’s Gold
Commendation Celebration was a very special event celebrating both the work of
the Hospice and marking the restaurant becoming the first in the town to be
awarded a Gold Commendation by the Weston Hotels and Restaurants Association.
More than 70 guests enjoyed a five course gourmet dinner on
Thursday 25 February devised and prepared by Head Chef Natasha Sweeting and her
team.
The dinner included a raffle and auction for top prizes such
as an exclusive tour of the new Grand Pier a week before it opens, including a
go on the rides before anybody else.
The event follows on from the Cookery Demonstration that was
held last year at The Old Thatched Cottage, raising more than £4400 for Weston
Hospicecare, which provides free palliative care to more than 1,000 people with
life-limiting illnesses in North Somerset and neighbouring parts of Somerset.
Diana Sorrell, Head of Income Generation at the hospice,
said: “We all had a wonderful evening and would like to give huge thanks to
Maria Michael and her team, including Steve Coghlan who helped organise the
evening and Natasha Sweeting the talented head chef for the fabulous five
course meal and for their generous on-going support of the hospice.
“We raised a fantastic amount of money for the hospice which
will be used to provide care and support for the patients that we serve in this
community..
“Not only did the restaurant generously give its time but
the suppliers also donated all the food for the evening, which I think shows
how much it means for this community to support their local hospice.”
Steve Coghlan, at the restaurant, said: “It was really a
great night, everybody had a really good time and there were some fantastic
prizes won in the auction. The Old
Thatched Cottage is proud to support Weston Hospicecare whenever we can.”
Food and wine for the evening was generously donated by the
restaurant’s suppliers, including Weston Cost Cutters, Weston Fruit Sales,
School Milk Services, Ashley Chase Estate, Matthew Clark Wine Merchants and
Miko Coffee.
