A SPECIAL event to celebrate a Weston-super-Mare nature reserve being awarded a coveted Green Flag award is being held this weekend.

The event to mark Uphill Hill being presented with the award takes place at Uphill Quarry on Sunday from noon-3pm.

Visitors will be able to take part in a family treasure hunt and a photo montage workshop.

The workshop offers both adults and children the opportunity to learn new skills with a professional photographer using a variety of different lenses and techniques to produce unique photographs of Uphill.

The photos will be used to create a montage which will be displayed at the Victory Hall and all those taking part will receive a free CD of the pictures.

The event is free and people are being invited to bring along a picnic.

Uphill Hill was one of four locations in North Somerset to be awarded a prestigious Green Flag, the others being Watchhouse Hill in Pill, Abbots Pool in Abbots Leigh and Jubilee Park in Weston-super-Mare.

Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible to enter the awards, which are run by environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.

Uphill Hill is a Local Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare. It is situated on the edge of Uphill village overlooking the River Axe estuary
