WESTON PIER TOP ATTRACTION

VISITORS have been flocking to Weston-super-mare's fire ravaged Grand Pier according to the latest statistics.

Tourism body Visit England has revealed the landmark structure was the eighth most popular free attraction to visit last year.

The survey, which was carried out in 2008, revealed the British Museum was the top free attraction and Westminster Abbey came number one for paid-for destinations.

James Berresford, Chief Executive of VisitEngland said: “The uplift in numbers and increasing appreciation of England’s world-class attractions is extremely welcome news.

“In terms of education, history, our natural landscapes, the quirky and unusual to the just plain fun - we’ve got everything here in England to suit all interests and budgets, whatever the weather.”
