ORGANISERS of the Weston-super-Mare carnival have announced they are changing the procession to a Friday.
Usually the event, which is the last carnival in the series nicknamed the magificent seven, takes place on a Monday night.
However, Weston Committee have become aware that Bridgwater carnival is to move to a Saturday from 2012.
With this in mind Weston Committee have decided to take the opportunity to move to the Friday vacated by Bridgwater.
The dates for Weston Carnival will therefore be November 9 in
2012, November 8, in 2013 and November 7, in 2014.
Weston Carnival has long been the last carnival on the circuit causing many clubs extra expense.
Mid-Somerset Gangs and Features have asked the County Committee's to re-organise the order of the circuit to avoid double travelling with the circuit finishing at Glastonbury.
This move to the Friday will reduce the expense and costs incurred by the clubs.
It will also shorten the circuit enabling clubs to finish by the Sunday.
It is anticipated that more families may be able to attend without the Tuesday school or work day.
Weston along with other carnivals are experiencing reduced collections and extra expenditure to stage the carnival.
It is anticipated this move will strengthen Weston carnival for the future and ensure its continuation for the benefit of the residents and traders of Weston super Mare.
Arrangements have been made and approved by North Somerset Council including the additional days of use of the Coach Park.
